Usher awarded Primary Custody of his two sons

                         

Usher's ex-wife Tameka Raymond just lost in the former couple's bitter custody battle, a judge has awarded Usher primary custody of their two sons.

Both sides were trying to strip each other of custody. Tameka felt the singer was an absentee father who was too absorbed in his career to be a good dad. She also accused him of using drugs in front of the kids. Usher argued Tameka was inattentive and irresponsible.

An 11-year old girl who was a victim of sexual abuse (name withheld) stunned the police in Lagos, when she confessed that she enjoyed having sex with their neighbour, Adams Oliyide, who allegedly defiled her on many occasions.

The victim told the police that she did not tell anyone including her parents because she enjoyed having sex with the suspect. The victim, who opened up to the police, when she was asked why she did not report the sexual assault to her parents, said whenever Oliyide invited her to his one room apartment, she always sneaked in and allowed him to have sex with her because she enjoyed it.

Harvard-educated Nigerian woman accused of ‘effectively stealing’ from the British taxpayer for giving birth in the UK and running away without paying after incurring a bill of £10,000

According to Mailonline: A Heavily-pregnant woman flew from her home in Nigeria to take advantage of the NHS by having her baby in Britain. She had £10,000 of treatment but is understood to have returned to Nigeria with her baby without paying a penny. The woman travelled 3,200 miles from Lagos to Manchester because she was worried about the standard of care in her own country and thought she would be in safer hands.

CBN to introduce N5000 note; to redesign N5, N10, N20 as coins

The new N5,000 note which is to be introduced is not going to feature the face of Late President Yar'Adua like we all heard but, according to CBN, The faces of three prominent Nigerian female activists are to be used on the new note.

They are those of

• late politician and social mobiliser, Margaret Ekpo (1914 – 2006);
• late politician and activist Hajia Gambo Sawaba (1933 – 2001) 
• late politician and women’s right activist Funmilayo Kuti (1900 -1978). 

 Addressing journalists in Abuja, the governor of the CBN, Sanusi Lamido said that the plan is aimed at enhancing the quality of banknotes, incorporate a more effective feature for the visually impaired as well as reduce cost of production, distribution and disposal of banknotes.

 He said that under the new structure, N5, N10 and N20 notes will be coined while N50, N100, N200, N500 and N1, 000 will be redesigned with new security features.

Deadly Ebola Virus outbreak kills 10 in Congo (CNN)

The Ebola virus which was first detected in 1976 in Congo is a deadly virus. Symptoms can include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, a measles-like rash, red eyes and, at times, bleeding from body openings and ultimately leading to death.

The Ebola virus has killed 10 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the World Health Organization said Tuesday. As of Monday, WHO said, the deaths are among 13 probable and two confirmed Ebola cases reported in Orientale province in eastern Congo.

Phone accessories seller arrested with N27m hard drug

Officers of Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have apprehended a 26-year old man in connection with 8.5kg of methamphetamine concealed inside metal pipes on Tuesday.

The suspect, Afunaya Thaddeus Izunna, who sells phone accessories at Ikeja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, was found at the weekend to be in possession of the drug during the screening of passengers on Ethiopian airline flight to New Delhi, India.

The drug is worth N27 million and was discovered when anti-narcotic officers insisted in searching the metal pipes inside his luggage.

The NDLEA Airport Commander, Mr. Hamza Umar said that the drug with a total weight of 8.5kg is one of the highest seizures recently recorded at the Lagos airport.

NDLEA quoted the suspect to have disclosed that he is married with 2 children.

“I am a trader. I sell phone accessories at Ikeja to take care of my wife and two children. It was a friend that gave me the metal pipes that I should take them to India for a fee. I did not know when, how and where it was packed. I was only given the bag containing the pipes. Unfortunately, when I got to the airport during screening, NDLEA officers discovered the drug and I was arrested. This is my first time of smuggling drugs. I hope my wife will understand and forgive men,” NDLEA quoted the suspect as saying.

The rate at which people disappear these days is so alarming. It's either they're kidnapped for ritual purposes or used as ransom to extort money from their families. Some are lucky enough to come back alive while others get killed even after the ransom has been paid. 

The story of Cynthia Ukoka is particularly painful to me because it could have been any of us. We've all got facebook, twitter and other social media friends. I have met and made lasting friends from social media and even stayed with a lady I met on Nairaland when I went to Port Harcourt sometime ago and she stayed with me in Lagos too when she came visiting Lagos. Till date, we're still friends, even though she eventually moved to the UK.

Policeman shoots himself, after shooting wife and daughters

A Nigerian Police Corporal, Anthony Ugwuoke, on Sunday shot himself dead after shooting his wife, Nkechi, and two daughters.

Ugwuoke’s wife and daughters are in critical condition at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA), where neighbours rushed them after the incident.

Alleged Cannibal Clifford Orji dies in Kirikiri Prison

I'm sure most Nigerians remember Clifford Orji who first made news about 13 years ago as the horrid man who roasted and ate human flesh. It was even said that lots of body parts were found stored in his freezer which he claimed he sold to notable politicians for rituals. 

He was arrested in 1999 under the bridge at Toyota Bus Stop along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos  and some people said he was mad at the time while others said he was a ritualise and not actually mad. 

While in  Kirikiri Mazimum Prison, he totally went mad, going about naked, vomiting and even defecating on himself. 

The bad thing is that he was never at any time admitted into any psychiatric home for treatment as most of the homes rejected him. 

He finally died on Friday, 17th August in his sleep at 46 years old

16 swept away in Kuramo Beach Ocean surge

High waves accompanied by ocean surge swept away 16 persons in Lagos around 2am this morning. One victim was reported dead. The police confirmed the body was recovered. The victims include 11 traders in a boat, four picknickers and a diver. Scene of disaster was Kuramo Beach on Victoria Island.
