Making knee pads for your crawling baby

I picked up my baby while he was crawling and noticed that a part of his knees looked lighter, like he had light bruises on them.

That was when I started wondering what I could do to protect the tender skin on his knees against the rough carpet while he crawled. I checked a few sites and only found something on Amazon with very low reviews and high price. Aside from the fact that they were expensive, there was still the problem of how long I will have to wait to get them while my poor baby suffers knee bruises so, I put on my thinking cap and came up with these wonderful knee pads for him.

I'll briefly explain how I made them with pictures, after the cut.

What you'll need

  • Solid socks (I used one I got from Osh Kosh that were still too big for him. A pack of 3 for about $3)
  • Thick but soft socks (I used something from gap that was very thick and soft but was always loose on my baby)
  • Scissors
  • Sewing needle and thread
How to make it
Get a thick pair of socks ready
Cut off the toes section
Turn it inside out and sew in the old thick but soft socks, ensuring that the sewing is loose so that it doesn't end up being too tight on your baby's thighs. The old socks should be short, around half way of the outer socks.
Fold the remaining part of the long socks over and sew with the needle and thread, sew below the edges of the long (outer socks)

Your baby's knee pads are ready!

With these, my little one is one little happy crawler, moving around the house in the speed of lightning, and I'm one happy mum, relaxed and watching him without fears that he will bruise his tender knees.

Mums (and dads too..lol) let us know if you found this useful or if you have found other ways to protect your baby's knees. Also, let us know if you think they are totally unnecessary, and remember to enjoy being  a parent!
