I've been cracking my brain, searching all over the internet and asking my colleagues one simple question. What is Shawa fish called in English but nobody seems to have the answer. So, I've decided to bring the question to my blog and see if I'll get answer to my question.
For those of you who do not know what Shawa looks like, it's some long, thin fish that is very common in Lagos. It's usually sold in 4s and 5s partially smoked and bent round.
It's tasteless when used or eaten like that but recently, someone has been supplying it to us very well seasoned with a lot of pepper. It really tastes nice that way but the bad thing is you can't stop once you start.
I beg, if you know what Shawa is called in English, tell us.

Shawa ke? Are U sure the English man knows that fish? Just call it shawa and enjoy it.
