Diaper rash can be very painful and extremely uncomfortable to babies.
The good thing though is that it's pretty easy to ensure that babies never get diaper rash at any stage with the use of good old petroleum jelly, precisely, Vaseline or Pears baby where Vaseline is not available.
Powder is never a good idea because when a baby pees in his diaper, the power cakes and may end up irritating the baby's tender skin but when petroleum jelly is used, it acts as a barrier and keeps baby's skin protected from the effect of his pee.
Some diapers come already greased but it's always better to play it safe and apply a coating of petroleum jelly on the baby's bum before putting the diaper on.
Sometimes, when a baby has had a bad case of diarrhea, it's very difficult to avoid diaper rash. In situations where a baby already has a mild case of diaper rash, the best thing will be to leave the baby's bum to air dry. Do not use diaper on him for a few days and please see a doctor if it seems to be getting worse or if the baby is getting very uncomfortable and fussing more than normal.
Mums, have your babies ever had diaper rash? How did you treat; how have you ensured that your baby's bum is always kept diaper rash free?
