Alleged rape of a mentally-challenged woman costs a man his life. Family wants justice

THE families of Anyinye in Idumu-Ugbe Quarters in Ogbeobi village, Onicha Ugbo, Delta State have urged the police to ensure that there is no sacred cow in a bid to unearth the mystery behind the death of their son, Ifechukwude Anyinye.

Ify, as he was fondly called, was killed for allegedly raping a mentally-challenged woman.

The death of the 37-year-old has led to blames and counter-blames in the community.
A group of youths, numbering about eight, allegedly led by their President (names withheld), were said to have committed the dastardly act on June 1.

The youths had visited the residence of Ify at Idumu-Ugbe Quarters with the latter mistaking them for the usual courtesy and friendly visit.

Unaware of their mission, Ify had asked to be allowed to take his bath before attending to them, having just arrived from a paid labour.

He was, however, taken by surprise, when those he thought were his friends suddenly became his assailants.
The visitors pounced on Ifechukwude, beat him up before dragging him to the palace of their traditional ruler.
